I was raised in Seattle, and attended the University of California, Berkeley where I graduate with a degree in Cognitive Science. I started my career at Google, and continued to build my tech experience at Stripe. I still highly enjoy pursuing neuroscience and technology, and actively spend my free time doing so. This brand, however, began with a challenge...

Specifically- a challenge to spend more time investing in my creative side. By.sume was born out of the intentional effort to create an inventive, beautiful and expressive garment each week while learning to sew and construct clothing for the first time. Slow fashion and wearing second hand have always been a part of my ethos and for this reason it was integral that each piece be focused on creating something out of existing clothes / materials / refuse. Through creativity I have transformed bedskirts, plastic and leaves into a variety of clothes and turned pacific coast seaweed into a one-shoulder floor length gown. I am thrilled to have found an opportunity to create wearable pieces of art that serve a sustainable lifestyle, and to have built a community and awareness around slow fashion. As creatives often find, investing in one artistic pursuit has caused my creativity to explode ten-fold in a slough of outlets. One of these has been in creating wall art, and another has been through modeling. I will update this site regularly with these pursuits as well as others should they continue to meaningfully grow.
